2015 might become yet another record-breaking year for the airport of the Faroe Islands
FIGURES released today show that May was the busiest May in the history of Vagar Airport on the Faroe Islands. Some 23.978 passengers used the airport as their gateway to and from the Faroe Islands. This is some 2000 more passengers than May 2014. So far this year some 95.799 passengers have used Vagar Airport and this is a staggering 11, 7 per cent growth compared to the same time in 2014.
Continued growth in passenger-figures and a new terminal with much improved possibilities to increase duty free sales has enabled, Vagar Airport to lover passenger-fees and give big rebates to the newly established routes to Barcelona, Mallorca and Edinburg. Incentives are also given to strengthen traffic to Norway and Iceland by higher frequencies to the two destinations.
All established routes are on the increase. Passenger-growth to the two destinations in Denmark, Copenhagen and Billund is some 8 per cent. Passenger-growth to Bergen is 30 per cent and to Reykjavik the growth is 8 percent. As the season to the UK and the new destination, Edinburgh is prolonged; the airport has experienced an increase of a staggering 67 per cent.
“As the Government on the Faroe Islands strongly wants to further growth in traffic to and from the Faroe Islands, Visit Faroe Islands has received a boost in their marketing-budgets. As the figures are on the increase and regularity record-high, Vagar Airport continues to support new routes with lower fees and more support”, says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Vagar Airport.
