4,2% fewer passengers for July 2009
Fewer scheduled route- and charter departures to date this year
Over July of this year, 30.336 passengers have departed and arrived through Vagar Airport. This is 4,2% less compared to July of last year, when the corresponding figure stood at 31.359. This reduction has in particular been recorded on the scheduled routes to Denmark, where the decrease has been 6,3%. On routes to Norway and Iceland, on the other hand, an increase has been recorded.
To date for 2009, a total of 121.578 passengers have come through the airport. This is 9,4% less compared to the same period last year, when 134.172 passengers came through the airport. To date a decrease of 8,2% has been recorded on routes to Denmark, to Norway a decrease of 13,3% and to Great Britain a decrease of 41,7%. The only routes to show an improvement are the routes to Iceland, with an 8,4% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.
Over July, there have been 594 flight departures and arrivals. This is 0,2% less compared to July last year, when 595 flight departures and arrivals were recorded.
To date, 2.791 aircraft have arrived and departed through Vagar Airport. This is 18% less compared to the same period last year, when the corresponding figure was 3.404. Scheduled domestic routes have shown a decrease of 8,3%, while international flights have decreased by 21,1%. Domestic charter flights have decreased by 36,4%, while international charter flights have decreased by 25,9%. However, the number of charter flights involved are not high, 65 in 2008 and 47 for 2009. It is also reflected in the number of flight operations that no offshore activity has been executed in 2009.
The total amount of airfreight lifted to date is 485 tons, or 1,7% more compared to the same period last year.
