No change in passenger numbers over April of 2008
To date, there has been an increase on all scheduled flights with the exception of routes to Iceland
Over April of 2008, a total of 16.685 passengers arrived and departed through Vagar Airport. This is 0,1% more compared to April of last year when the corresponding figure stood at 16.671. This year the Easter holidays were in March, while the Easter holiday traffic last year was spread over the months of March and April. This factor seems to impact passenger numbers somewhat.
To date for 2008, a total of 61.274 passengers have travelled through the airport. This is an increase of 12,8% compared to the same period last year, when the corresponding figure stood at 54.315. To date, an increase has been recorded on all scheduled routes, with the exception of routes to Iceland, where a decrease of 26,5% has been recorded.
For April, 426 aircraft arrived and departed, corresponding to a growth of 7,6%, compared to April of last year.
To date for 2008, a total of 1.776 flight operations have been at the airport. This is 20,2% more compared to the same period last year. This growth is mainly due to the offshore activity, which has been undertaken in 2008. At the moment, there is no offshore aviation activity.
To date, 120,2 tons of airmail and 140 tons of other airfreight has been transported. This represents a decrease of 16%, and 10,6% in airmail and other airfreight, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
